Translation/Transcription Coordinator PDF Print E-mail

Position Summary:

The Translation/Transcription Coordinator is in charge of managing and taking ownership of projects involving transcription and translation, mostly from Portuguese to English. The projects are mostly interviews with participants in our programs.

He/she will co-ordinate the translation/transcription requirements of Community Empowerment Network and will be working with translators, transcribers and other members of the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the transcription of various interviews of residents from the isolated communities in the Brazilian Amazon where we work. Several of the interviews sound quite interesting, including a rare oral history about one of the communities, and will be source material for our programs, as well as in a variety of marketing materials;
  • Assign and coordinate transcription and translation assignments to volunteer transcribers and translators located around the world (mostly in the US);
  • Work with HR recruiting to build a team of transcribers and translators;
  • Coordinate with marketing and program staff to establish priorities; and
  • Other responsibilities as they come up.
KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Needed:
  • Demonstrate a high degree of proficiency working with details;
  • Effective communications and team management skills;
  • Possess an adequate understanding of relational data structure; and
  • Demonstrate maturity and reliability.

Please be able to commit a minimum average of 10 hours a month.

This is a “virtual” team opportunity which you may perform from your home or other location; however we would like for you to be located in the Seattle-area.

Community Empowerment Network's (CEN’s) operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers (the only exception is our Field Manager in Santarém, Brazil, who is paid under contract). We are staffed along the lines of the Open Source development community. We have several (currently eight) Working Groups, each with its own lead who manages a number of Project Leads. These Project Leads are responsible for building and managing teams of volunteers to execute specific projects. We’re a small organization and so lines of responsibility become a little blurred at time, but this provides a terrific opportunity to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand your skills.
