Position Summary:

We are looking for volunteers to assist in developing and testing our small to medium web software development projects. This position is a terrific opportunity not only to practice and enhance your Joomla skills but also work on a good cause that brings about a real difference in the community.

We are currently focussed on developing the following three initatives:

  • Enhancing of community information portal (Infocentro)
  • Building a web-based volunteer management portal hosted on Joomla content management systems (volunteer.communityempowernet.org)
  • Minor web development efforts on the website www.endruralpoverty.org, which is also managed by Joomla
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and test web-based applications used on one of the three sites listed above;
  • Research and Implement Joomla plug-ins; and
  • Getting multimedia content to display on website.
KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Needed :
  • Strong knowledge of HTML, .php, and javascript;
  • Familiarity with mySQL and Joomla;
  • Web & GUI development experience; and
  • Familiarity with video streamlining and flash preferred.

Please be able to commit 8-10 hours/month. This is a “virtual” team opportunity which you may perform from your home or other location.

Community Empowerment Network's (CEN’s) operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers (the only exception is our Field Manager in Santarém, Brazil, who is paid under contract). We are staffed along the lines of the Open Source development community.

We have several (currently eight) Working Groups, each with its own lead who manages a number of Project Leads. These Project Leads are responsible for building and managing teams of volunteers to execute specific projects. We’re a small organization and so lines of responsibility become a little blurred at time, but this provides a terrific opportunity to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand your skills.
