Position Summary

The Website Editor/Coordinator is responsible for coordinating between the technical, marketing, program and other staff in order to maintain consistent editorial, graphic design, and management policies.

Please note that this is not primarily a technical position. Due to the need to coordinate closely with the Board and Director, we are looking for someone located in the Seattle or Bellingham, WA area.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure the website meets our organizational needs and provides a consistant message;
  • Work with the Website Content Lead to prioritize, coordinate and edit the work of many content contributors who work directly on the site pages;
  • Ensure that the content of the site reflects the policies of the enterprise, is consistent with local appropriate use policies, and does not contain material that violates copyright laws;
  • Oversee the strategy to drive traffic to the site;
  • Oversee the monitoring and analysis of website usage statistics; and
  • Recommend and implement changes to improve usability and effectiveness.

KSAs (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Needed
  • Creative (i.e. able to come up with interesting solutions to the site’s needs)
  • Ability to develop and communicate a vision;
  • Ability to liaise effectively among technical, marketing and design/aesthetic team-members;
  • Strong Collaboration skills;
  • Meticulous about details;
  • Possess a familiarity with HTML and CSS. Familiarity with PHP, MySQL, and Joomla (or a similar CMS system) is a bonus;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Self-directed; and
  • Organizational leadership experience desired, but not required.
Please be able to commit a minimum average of 10 hours a month for a minimum of 6 months.

This is a “virtual” team opportunity which you may perform from your home or other location, although we are looking for someone located in the Seattle or Bellingham, WA area.We have several (currently eight) Working Groups, each with its own lead who manages a number of Project Leads. These Project Leads are responsible for building and managing teams of volunteers to execute specific projects. We’re a small organization and so lines of responsibility become a little blurred at time, but this provides a terrific opportunity to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand your skills. Community Empowerment Network's (CEN’s) operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers (the only exception is our Field Manager in Santarém, Brazil, who is paid under contract). We are staffed along the lines of the Open Source development community.
