Position Summary:

Copywriter/Journalist is responsible for writing the written content on our website and newsletter. This will require working closely with the Marketing Lead and the Webmaster to ensure that the content matches our marketing strategy and priorities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Write content for CEN’s website and newsletter. In some cases this will require the adaptation of existing text, and in others, developing it from scratch.

• Strong communications and writing skills
• Creative
• Self-directed
• Commitment to CEN’s mission and strong interest in international development issues.

Please be able to commit a minimum average of 10 hours a month.

This is a “virtual” team opportunity which you may perform from your home or other location; however we would like for you to be located in the Seattle-area.

Community Empowerment Network's (CEN’s) operations are nearly entirely driven by the efforts of volunteers (the only exception is our Field Manager in Santarém, Brazil, who is paid under contract). We are staffed along the lines of the Open Source development community. We have several (currently eight) Working Groups, each with its own lead who manages a number of Project Leads. These Project Leads are responsible for building and managing teams of volunteers to execute specific projects. We’re a small organization and so lines of responsibility become a little blurred at time, but this provides a terrific opportunity to take on a variety of responsibilities and to expand your skills.For more information on our staffing structure, please visit How Our Teams Work .
